Be Kind Rewind

This movie is sooo funny! Jack Black is hilarious!

This is a story of two guys who try to keep their VHS rental store in business after accidentally magnetizing, thus, destroying all the tapes in the store by SWEDING popular movies. They basically try to recreate the whole movie from scratch by using whatever they can get their hands on, hoping that the naive loyal customers won't notice the difference. Not only did they notice it, but they loved it. Demands for more sweded movies poured in and they become famous!

Although I wouldn't really say that creator Michael Gondry's concept was original, I remember watching a similar sketch from Nickelodeon's comedy show "All That" some years back. Amanda Bynes and Drake Bell played as Russian immigrant owners of a movie rental store that lent out movies that they re-shot or recreated themselves. But I'd have to give Gondry snaps for casting Jack Black in the movie. I can't imagine anyone else playing the role of the hyperactive paranoid Jerry other than him.

I would say that their website is unique and fun. You'd see how they magnetized and erased the internet and replace it with their own sweded version of google and the internet. Have a blast trying to swede yourself or your own website by clicking here.

Food for thought:
Sweding is so much more fun (and legal) that pirating!

Why "swede"?
Jerry (Jack Black's character) claimed that the VHS tapes were imported all the way from Sweden which justified the expensive rental fee. He invented the word "sweded" while arguing with a customer.

Why "Be Kind, Rewind"? my nephew asked.
This maybe lost on the younger generation. But for those who can still recall what Betamax and VHS tapes are, the answer may be more obvious. We normally see this phrase written on the box when we rent out these tapes, asking the customer to rewind it after watching so that it's ready to be rented out to the next customer.
